Sempre Sisters Bio

Sempre Sisters, violinist Charlotte Marckx and cellist Olivia Marckx, is an award-winning classically trained sister duo that aims to create music not limited by genre. The sisters perform their own compositions and virtuosic arrangements of music in a variety of styles, from Bizet to Sinatra. 

Originally from Seattle, this  Los Angeles area duo has been featured on NPR’s From the Top, Strings Magazine, and Classical KING FM 98.1, as well as at the Northwest Folklife Festival. They have received national and international acclaim, including being a 2019 Davidson Foundation "Enormous Talent" Fellowship recipient and winning the 2018 Stulberg International String Competition Gold Medal and Bach Prize (Charlotte), as well as securing a top prize at the 2022 Couer d'Alene National Young Artists Competition and winning a prize at the YoungArts National Arts Competition (Olivia). They were grand prize winners of the KING FM Young Artists Awards and have performed with the Seattle Chamber Music Society and the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival. The sisters have soloed with several orchestras individually and as a duo, including the Seattle Symphony, Pacific Symphony, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Port Angeles Symphony, and Kalamazoo Symphony.  They have also performed with Jon Kimura Parker, Chee -Yun Kim, Noah Bendix-Balgley, Time for Three,  Pink Martini, and Mark and Maggie O’Connor. Olivia earned a BM and MM degree from the Colburn Conservatory where she studied with Ron Leonard and Clive Greensmith and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at USC's Thornton School of Music, in the studio of world-renowned cellist and pedagogue Ralph Kirshbaum. Charlotte is finishing her undergraduate degree at the Colburn Conservatory. She studies with legendary pedagogue Robert Lipsett, who is the coach and mentor of the duo.
